History of Grama Panchayat
There is no consensus among historians regarding the origin of the place name Kuravilangad. One opinion is that the forest of the Koravelans became 'Koravelanad' and that it later became Kuravilangad. The earliest Anchal seal is cited as evidence for this opinion, with the word 'Koravilangad' added. There is another opinion that Kuravilangad became Kuravilangad. There are those who believe that 'Kuravu Elakad', which was west of Elakad, which was Cardamom, became Kuravilangad. However, linguists who research place names and the relationship between the Malayalam language and Tamil, have a different opinion. They believe that the Tamil word 'Ellakode', which means a high place, became Elakad, and that Kurua Ellakode, which is a slightly lower area than Elakad, became Kuravilangad.
